Southern Fried Funeral, written by Osborne and Eppler, is a heartwarming story about family, love, and the chaos of loss. Set in rural Mississippi, the play begins with Dewey Frye’s sudden death, leaving his wife, Dorothy, and their dysfunctional family to navigate the aftermath. The Fryes’ adult children return home, bringing their own baggage: a daughter with marriage issues, a son struggling to find his place, and another daughter who dreams of stardom.
Adding to the mix are eccentric relatives, nosy neighbors, and family secrets bubbling to the surface. As the family tries to plan Dewey’s funeral, hilarity ensues amid old childhood rivalries, and heartfelt moments of reflection. Ultimately, the play celebrates resilience and the bonds that hold families together, even when life gets messy and unpredictable.
